- Abstract
The lightning indirect effect test and failure analysis are carried out on a certain Very High Frequency(VHF) communication station. Test results show that the audio response,harmonic distortion,transmitting power,frequency stability and modulation depth of the VHF communication station are relatively less sensitive to Lighting Electromagnetic Pulse(LEMP),while the receiving sensitivity is quite susceptive. The significant degradation of receiving sensitivity can be adopted as the typical criteria for LEMP induced failure of the VHF communication station. The receiving function of the VHF communication station is more easily affected by lightning than the transmitting function. Failure analysis indicates the mechanism of the failure caused by lightning is that the low noise amplifier(LNA) of RF front-end degrades and the ground鄄ed inductor and capacitor of RF front-end filter burns instantaneously.
