- Abstract
Due to its high prevalence, intestinal constipation has lately been considered a public health issue. Pathology is one of the functional diseases of the intestine with negative repercussions on life quality. Different non-medicinal and medicinal approaches have been proposed for its prevention and treatment. Current study comprises a bibliographical review of the epidemiological and clinical aspects of intestinal constipation towards the elaboration of prevention strategies and solution of problems. Specialized literature shows that several risk factors may contribute for the installation of intestinal constipation. A balanced diet and healthy habits are required with simple behavioral modifications such as the increase in the intake of fiber-rich food, increase in liquid intake and the practice of physical exercises.
