- Abstract
The article discusses the play "Death and the Maiden," by Ariel Dorfman. It states that the play focuses on the rejection by the main character, Paulina Salas, of the impunity caused by the blindness inflicted to her during the torture session. It says that the blindfold in the story is linked with the torture practiced against political detainees. It points out that the characters in the play link men with reasons while women are linked with hysteria and darkness. It mentions that the male characters such as Doctor Miranda and her husband, Gerardo, portray as the scars left on Paulina by the traumatic events It adds that the play asserts the rights of every person, specially those of the victims, to have social participation.
