- Abstract
Science without Leisure: Practical Naturalism in Istanbul, 1660-1732, written by Harun Küçük Küçük is correct in pointing out that the popular dichotomy between secular/academic and Islamized-practical science fails to explain the reasons behind the rise of practical naturalism in the seventeenth-century Ottoman Empire. Finally, Küçük's book also contains a warning for the present-day academic, whose days are filled with numerous demands that are barely compatible with the leisurely pursuit of knowledge.
