- Abstract
This article, published in Clinical Epidemiology, explores the association between lipoprotein(a) [Lp(a)] and cardiovascular disease (CVD) and cancer mortality. The study suggests that there is a link between Lp(a) and both CVD and cancer mortality, particularly in individuals with higher levels of inflammation. The findings indicate that inflammation may mediate the effect of Lp(a) on the dual risk of CVD and cancer mortality. The study was conducted using data from the Third National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES III) and involved a large nationally representative cohort followed for over two decades. However, further research is needed to confirm these findings.
