- Abstract
The article offers information on a study which investigated the effects of therapy with estrogen combined with progestin on cumulative breast cancer incidence and mortality following a total mean follow-up of 11 years, through August 14, 2009. The study population of 16,608 postmenopausal women between the ages of 50 to 79 years who have not undergone hysterectomy in U.S. clinical centers were randomly assigned to receive combined conjugated equine estrogens, plus medroxyprogesterone acetate or placebo pill. Main outcome measures were invasive breast cancer incidence and breast cancer mortality. A discussion on the research findings is detailed.
