- Abstract
The article discusses the use of a new parameter called NEUT-RI (neutrophil reactivity intensity) in the Sysmex XN-series hematology analyzers for early diagnosis of severe illness in an outpatient setting. NEUT-RI measures changes in the fluorescence intensity of neutrophils, indicating an increase in metabolic activity and an early innate immune response. The article presents a case study of a patient with lung cancer who was diagnosed with a severe infection based on a high NEUT-RI value, despite being asymptomatic. The authors suggest that NEUT-RI could be a valuable tool for early diagnosis in outpatient settings and call for further studies to assess its utility.
