- Abstract
The article discusses lessons that the author feels companies can learn from organizations who work with people who are at the base of the economic period (BoP). Lessons the author feels can be learned from studying the BoP include that the BoP contains both producers and consumers, opportunities can be created for people at the BoP through public/private partnerships and that people at the BoP can impact innovation. Changes that the author feels needs to occur in regards to companies' mindsets in order for them to be successful in a partnership with the BoP are mentioned, such as changing the belief that charity is the only way the lives of poor people can be made better.
