- Title
ST. JOHN CHRYSOSTOM ON GRACE AND FREE WILL.
- Authors
Bradshaw, David
- Abstract
St. John Chrysostom (c. 347-407) has sometimes been categorized, somewhat anachronistically, as a semi-Pelagian-that is, one who believes that although divine help is necessary for salvation, the initium fidei, the first step toward faith, must come from us. Careful attention to his language reveals that his view does not fall anywhere on the traditional map of positions, whether Pelagian, semi-Pelagian, or Augustinian. Yet it is deeply and thoroughly biblical.
