The article features DESCO founder Maximilian Eugene Nohl. He was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1910. He studied mechanical engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He designed the diving sphere called the Hell Below, which was fabricated by Falk Corp. In 1935, Nohl started his salvage operations on the sunken steamship called the John Dwight.
