- Title
Orthopnea in Obese Adult Patients: Can It Be Quantified From Lung Function Testing?
- Authors
Davies, John D.
- Abstract
The author discusses a study by E. Perino and colleagues, published within the issue, on the role of closing volume as an indicator of orthopnea in stable obese patients both in the sitting and supine position while looking at expiratory flow limitation (EFL). The study hypothesized that an increase in closing volume in the supine position will be higher in orthopneic subjects as compared with non-orthopneic subjects. The complexity of the effects of obesity on the pulmonary system is noted.
