- Abstract
This study describes the karyotype of Noctilio albiventris from the northern Pantanal region of central Brazil and discusses its taxonomic applications. Cytogenetic analysis of mitotic metaphase chromosomes from bone marrow preparations of 12 specimens shows that a diploid number (2n) of 34, an autosomal fundamental (FNa) of 62, and respective submetacentric and acrocentic X and Y chromosomes comprise the trypsin-Giemsa (G)-banded karyotype. Chromosome pair 12 demonstrated active nucleolar organizer regions (NOR) with secondary constrictions. Findings also revealed a constitutive heterochromatin distribution patterns in the pericentrometric regions of all autosomes and in the X chromosomes.
