- Title
Suspected Palytoxin Inhalation Exposures Associated With Zoanthid Corals in Aquarium Shops and Homes.
- Abstract
The article presents a case study of a middle aged man with possible palytoxin exposure who was taken to the emergency department. He reported having a bitter metallic taste, fever, weakness, cough, and muscle pain after introduction of live zoanthid coral into his home aquarium. The article discusses confirmation of crude palytoxin in zoanthid tissue, palytoxin as a vasoconstrictor, and neutralization of palytoxin by soaking the coral in a household bleach solution.
