- Abstract
The article discusses research into the social and political revolts of the rural population in 18th century Val de Bagnes, Switzerland, and the networks binding their members. An extensive genealogical database enables a look at patterns of mobilization of participants in various conflicts and reveals the existence of organized political factions formed along kinship lines, personal and community solidarities, and networks of spiritual affiliation. Additionally the protest groups are said to have have been stable over time and operating under coherent political programs.
