- Authors
Grüne, Niels
- Abstract
The article focuses on historical research regarding the transformation of common pasture lands in South-West Germany during the 18th and 19th centuries, focusing on the Baden Palatinate (Badische Pfalz), part of the Palatinate Electorate that was incorporated into the Grand Duchy of Baden in 1802. After defining the lands researched, it shows that the commons came under the tenancy of local citizens who used the lands for commercial agriculture between 1770 and 1850. The impact of agrarian reforms in the late 19th century on local populations is considered.
