- Abstract
At Randers Regional Hospital the patient care coordinator for bowel cancer plays a central role in patients' experience of the care pathway. Telephone interviews with 20 patients about their experience of preoperative planning and organisation in connection with diagnosis and treatment of bowel cancer shows significant satisfaction with structured planning, care and support in the course of investigating the disease. Patients are extremely satisfied with the verbal information, but experience of the written information differs. The purpose of the study is to gain an insight into the patients' experience of the care pathway, and to identify how this can be optimised. Possible measures are identified, but the main focus is that positive experiences from the preoperative phase can be used both in relation to the total patient course of care and be extended to other patient care pathways at Randers Regional Hospital.
