- Abstract
The author argues that the rise of an environmental imagination in the form of Dutch realistic landscape painting can be seen at the start of modern globalization in 17th-century Netherlands. An overview of the rise of environmental imagination and Dutch landscape painting in the Netherlands is provided. The main thesis of German art historian Karl Scheffler's book "The Architecture of the Metropolis" is supported by Dutch landscape.
