- Abstract
The article discusses abnormal angiogenesis and the roles of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF)-A and angiopoietins in diabetic nephropathy. Several studies that provide evidence of abnormal angiogenesis in diabetic nephropathy are cited. Also explored in the article is the pathological role of abnormal angiogenesis in diabetic nephropathy. Some novel treatments to prevent angiogenesis in patients at the early stages of diabetic nephropathy are mentioned, one of which is the anti-angiogenic isoforms of VEGF-A.
