- Abstract
This article explores the parallels between the current state of affairs and the events of 1968. It focuses on the Tet Offensive in Vietnam, which revealed the unlikelihood of a US military victory, and the growing opposition to the war, including protests and criticism of President Johnson. The article also discusses the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the subsequent riots, as well as student protests at Columbia University and in Paris, which called for radical change and challenged authority. The text acknowledges the violence and injustice experienced in various contexts, such as the bombings in Vietnam, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and police brutality during the Democratic Convention in Chicago. It presents the perspectives of individuals affected by these events, including Father Daniel Berrigan, Sirhan Sirhan, and Vietnam veterans. Additionally, the article highlights the devastating impact of the US war machine in Vietnam, including the use of bombs, napalm, and Agent Orange, which resulted in significant casualties, deformities, and long-lasting effects on the region.
