- Authors
Ashby, W. Clark
- Abstract
The article discusses the role of native plants in restoring strip mines in Illinois. There are a number of woody and herbaceous native species that have invaded forests on pre-law mined lands with rejuvenated soils. Examples of these include the Aplectrum hyemale, Corallorhiza odontorhiza, Liparis liliifolia, Spiranthes cernua, Spiranthes vernalis, Juglans nigra, Prunus serotina, Asplenium platyneuron, among others. There are two uses of native plants in current reclamation and these are stream relocation and wetland restoration.
