Nursing Documentation has been in recent years one of the key development areas of nursing content for future change in patient information systems. Finland has created a national documentation model in a National Health Care project, which has been introduced into working life by eNNI project (2008-2010) as a cooperative project by nurse educators and working life experts. The objective of the project is the implementation of the new documentation model at work places. The data was collected by an e-questionnaire prior to the commencement of eNNI subprojects I and II, development of nursing informatics. The questionnaire was replied by the nurse educators, nurses selected by working life partners and other healthcare professionals (N= 136). The results show that the participants were proficient in use of information communication technology. More demanding information literacy competences, such as use of databases or software installations, were the realm of those who had to carry out these tasks in their work. Nursing documentation skills varied in the beginning of the project Over one third (38 %) estimated their process documentations skills as good level. Nearly one third (29 %) were proficient in the use of nursing diagnosis documentation. The survey results will be used in the assessment of the evolution of competence in documentation during the project.
