- Abstract
The article focuses on the campaign that the leading retailers Boots Co. PLC, Marks & Spencer, Tesco, and Walkers Snack Foods Ltd. started on January to June 2007 to assess and reduce the carbon footprint of their products. Tesco, a major supermarket chain in Great Britain started the trend on January 18, when chief executive officer (CEO) Terry Leahy announced plans for the company to measure the carbon footprint of their 70,000 products. In late February, Great Britain Environment Secretary David Millibrand announced that the Carbon Trust was developing a new food labeling system for consumer products. Tom Delay, CEO of the Carbon Trust said that since the launch of the scheme, over 150 companies have expressed interest in becoming involved.
