The article offers world news briefs related to medical researches. In the promoter of the gene encoding the chemokine monocyte chemoattractant protein 1, a single-nucleotide polymorphism has been associated with an increased risk of susceptibility to pulmonary tuberculosis. Evidences have been found that Plasmodium falciparum, malaria parasite, to have developed increased resistance to artemesinin derivatives. A colonizer of oral tissue and a cause of periodontal disease, the Porphyromonas gingivalis has been discovered to spread from one cell to another.
