- Abstract
The article discusses the fraternal organization the Sociedad Mutualista Benito Juárez (MSBJ), or the Mutual Aid Society Benito Juárez, in the Indiana Harbor neighborhood of East Chicago, Indiana, from 1924 to 1957. It examines the efforts of the society to promote Mexican culture, provide social welfare services, and conduct benevolent work. The author also considers the employment of Mexican Americans in the steel industry, the demographic makeup of the society's membership, and organization's merger with other societies to become the Unión Benéfica Mexicana (UBM).
