- Abstract
An essay is presented on the role of language as a cinematic object that resolves local contexts and genres in the U.S. Topics discussed include evolution of American film industry, statement of French illusionist Georges M&#233li&#232s on film genre, and idea of vernacular modernism given by film historian Miriam Hansen. Other topics include opposition between Hollywood and French art cinema, and hindrance caused by language difference over imagination of audiences.
