- Title
Getting It Wrong in "The Lady of Shalott".
- Authors
GRAY, ERIK
- Abstract
The article presents analysis of Alfred Tennyson's poem "The Lady of Shalott," conceiving of the Lady as a poet figure who becomes an artist when she places herself under the curse in the poem. The author states that such a reading must take into account Tennyson's revisions of the poem as well as Tennyson's ideas regarding free will and conscious error. The author discusses the above themes, Tennyson's revisions which appear in "Idylls of the King," and one of Tennyson's unpublished poems.
