- Title
Poetry in the Victorian Marketplace: The Illustrated Princess as a Christmas Gift Book.
- Authors
Kooistra, Lorraine Janzen
- Abstract
The article focuses on Lord Alfred Tennyson's "Princess," which was a poem that was illustrated by Daniel Maclise and published by House of Moxon. The author uses the book to ruminate not only upon Tennyson, but on the market for mass produced gift books that was just emerging. Market forces influenced the kind of poetry that was written--Victorians had a special test for the middle ages--and influenced publishers who would embellish volumes for the Christmas season.
