- Abstract
This paper presents the new geospatial educational paradigm being implemented at Michigan Technological University. The paradigm follows the traditional pyramid of building on solid undergraduate programs, providing several choices at the Master's level, and culminating with a Ph.D. program. In addition, an online component for continuing education courses on global positioning systems (GPS) and related subjects is available. The main characteristics of the paradigm are recognition of the need to be in close communication with professional groups, in particular the surveying community; pursuing active national and international participation; and filly utilizing modern Internet communication capabilities for instruction. The flexibility inherent in the design of the program makes it possible to adapt quickly to future needs in the surveying engineering profession and the geospatial industry.
