The article describes the British court case R. v. Docherty (Shaun) wherein the appellant argued that an extended sentence for public protection (EPP) was the more appropriate sentence in his case and not the sentence of imprisonment for public protection (IPP). Topics covered include the lex mitior and ultra vires doctrines, the purpose of the Legal Aid, Sentencing and Punishment of Offenders Act of 212 (LASPO), and the Supreme Court's dismissal of the appeal.
