- Abstract
The article discusses the prominent scholars of English-language pastoralism in the mid-eighteenth century. It describes that the pastoral in all genres was by the author Samuel Johnson's time enfeebled and exhausted, and his literary criticism and biography only accelerated inevitable end. Johnson did not give the coup de grâce to the pastoral mode but did much to revalorize it as normatively practiced and hypothesized.
