- Abstract
The article presents a microhistory of the politics of wartime trade protectionism in Great Britain during World War I by exploring British policies towards multinational trading companies whose primary business was the import and export of goods between Europe and Asia based in Switzerland, a neutral country during the war. The author focuses particularly on case studies of two German-Swiss firms, Volkart Bros. and Diethelm & Co.
