- Abstract
Behavioral geography is concerned with analyzing and explaining the behaviors of individuals within a spatial space, with emphasis on the interactive relationships between humans and the environment. In this context, this research paper attempts to study the phenomenon of violence against women in the center and city of Sohag. It represents a problem that threatens the bonds and advancement of society, where the level of violence remains persistent and escalates in the event that conservative elements are still affected, which affects the reduction of women's ability to participate in life and narrow their participation in development. Women are half of society, not only in terms of the largest number but also in terms of quality. Because it is the main factor in raising the other half, which may affect the advancement of society and the achievement of development for any geographical area. Therefore, this study deals with the spatial variation of the phenomenon of violence in the center and city of Sohag in AD and during the period from January to October ; To give it a spatial dimension, and to highlight the phenomenon of violence in statistical numbers. Violence is a behavioral problem that has been studied by behavioral geography through geographical analysis, and linking the phenomenon of violence spatially according to the spatial environment in which it occurred. Scientific studies related to the subject, including information from the Security Directorate about women who have been subjected to violence through an official complaint at police stations, then field investigations (form and personal interviews), and finally making maps using the Arc GIS program The study was conducted on a random sample of female individuals in the center and city of Sohag, and the study found an impact of natural and human geographical factors on the levels of violence. The status of violence rises in the rural environment by ( ) cases compared to ( ) cases in the urban environment. The research also showed that moral violence is the most common type of violence that women are exposed to in the study area. The study sought to identify the main causes of violence, the most important of which were family disputes, and with regard to the reasons that lead women in the Sohag community to remain captive to a violent relationship, the most important of which was taking into account the social appearance and avoiding others' blaming. The results of the quantitative analysis showed that there are statistically significant differences due to the study variables.
