- Abstract
This text addresses the production of urban space which is problematized by art. Our critical gaze rests on a know-how derived from architecture and urbanism, validated by the market, following models of excellence and formal technical knowledge, legitimized by the Academy - here identified with the idea of great architecture. The theoretical basis is the notion of minor in Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari (2015), intertwined with notions of aesthetics and politics in Jacques Rancière (2009). The empirical motto, on the other hand, is the practice of Mexican artist Héctor Zamora, represented here by two recent works: Paracaidista, Av. Revolución 1608 Bis, 2004; and Bar Las Divas (Sustracción/Adición), 2007. The result is a tension, triggered by art, of this hegemonic know-how. In Zamora's aesthetic experiences, the traditional center-margins movement is inverted to margins-center, inviting us to reflect on informal and minor modes of urban space production.
