- Abstract
In this study, the effects of 3 lateral shoot length (None, 3-4 leaves, 6-7 leaves) and 3 main shoot length (1 m, 1.25 m, 1.5 m) treatments examined on Merlot/5BB combination vines for the oenological properties of must in between 2013-2015 years. The effects of canopy microclimates created by different green pruning practices are especially seen in lateral shoot applications. During in the hot years with low precipitation and relative humidity vegetation periods as in 2013 and 2015, 3-4 leaves lateral shoots had positive impacts in terms of must oenological properties. Excessive precipitation and high relative humidity during the vegetation period in 2014 raised the physiological activity and quality in the application of leafless (none) lateral shoot treatments. The main shoot length applications have no significant effect on quality or physiological activity. The results obtained has pointed out that the climate condition of the year that is the most important factor in the time and severity of green pruning practices in terms of the cultivation of wine varieties and it will be appropriate to apply different applications in years with different climatic characteristics.
