- Abstract
The first and foremost task to build a modern socialist country in all respects is high-quality development. Using the panel data of cities in the Yangtze River Economic Belt from 2003 to 2020 as a sample, this paper empirically tests the economic convergence of high-quality development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt, and analyzes the relationship between transportation infrastructure construction and the convergence effect of high-quality development. The results show that: there are significant absolute convergence, conditional convergence and club convergence effect in the high-quality development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt. In terms of regions, the convergence effect is strongest in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River Economic Belt, followed by the downstream regions, and weakest in the upstream regions. In terms of city size, the convergence effect is strongest in megacities, followed by large cities, and weakest in large cities. The construction of transportation infrastructure can promote the convergence effect of high-quality development in the Yangtze River Economic Belt to a certain extent, and the role of high-speed railway construction is stronger than that of road infrastructure construction. In terms of regions, transportation infrastructure plays an important role in promoting the convergence of high-quality development in both the upper and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, but restricts the convergence effect in the middle reaches. In terms of city size, whether road infrastructure or high-speed railway has a certain degree of influence of promoting convergence.
