- Title
British Christians and the Third Reich: Church, State, and the Judgement of Nations. By Andrew Chandler.
- Authors
Kurlander, Eric
- Abstract
The third part of the book turns to the mounting concerns of Quakers and other British Christians no longer willing to tolerate the "uneasy calm" that had developed in German-British (Christian) relations. Indeed, the final part of the book, "A Gathering Judgement, 1944-1949", examines the growing recognition among Christians and non-Christians alike that there could be no negotiated peace with the Third Reich. Even after Niemöller was finally arrested in the summer of 1937, however, few British Christians were willing to sign on to Buxton's public letter decrying the persecution of Christians and non-Christians alike.
