- Abstract
This document is a response to a letter to the editor regarding a previous editorial and manuscript on bariatric surgery funding and registry capture. The authors of the response emphasize the importance of 100% participation in clinical quality registries in Australia and clarify that their study did not promote length of stay (LOS) as the definitive standard for benchmarking clinical performance. They also address the potential confounding factors related to bariatric surgery funding and present findings from a separate study comparing outcomes in government-funded and privately funded healthcare settings. The authors acknowledge the limitations of the data and call for further analysis and mandatory participation in registries to improve outcomes for individuals receiving bariatric/metabolic surgery in Australia.
