- Title
The Mystical Sophia: More on the Great Grandmother in the Princess Books.
- Authors
Hayward, Deirdre
- Abstract
The article explores the Sophianic characteristics in novelist George MacDonald's great-grandmother in his writings. It discusses the influence by Novalis' mystical concept to George MacDonald's mystical notion of the Divine Sophia. The author also notes that both Novalis and MacDonald were influenced by Jacob Bö, whose mystical writings show a well-shaped conception of the Sophia as a female revelation of God, a divine principle of wisdom and the beloved of the soul.
