- Abstract
In this study which the crisis of sociology is discussed, we have tried to understand the background of this crisis. This debate have been initated by Alvin W. Gouldner in 1970 and it is closely related to social, economic and political situation in this period. Functionalism, so called "ortodox consensus", had difficulty to understand 1960's and 1970's tumultuous period. Because of the functionalism response to understand this period, it became the cause of many debates. Under these circumstances, some social scientists argue that sociology came to the end. Functionalism either ignored or failed to explain the protest movements of 1960s, the demand for change and also conflict and the individual who leaded this conflict. That is why we will argue that the crisis of sociology is the crisis of functionalism. In this regard, aftergiving a brief of historical events in the given period, we will adres to Talcott Parsons' functionalism and then make a discussion over Gouldner about crisis.
