- Abstract
The article discusses the relationship between the architecture of movie theaters and social experiences of the arts and culture. The author examines changes in the architectural design of movie venues from the early 20th century through the development of movie palaces, focusing on architectural aspects such as façades. He addresses the concept of borrowed spaces, the distance between reality and the imaginary as portrayed in movie theater architecture, and nickelodeon theaters. Other topics discussed include the design and placement of ticket booths, the role of time and space in motion picture viewing, and placelessness.
