The article examines the compliance of States' law enforcement bodies with international human rights standards. Topics discussed include the victims of police killings around the world, an Urgent Debate organized by the United Nations Human Rights Council in June 2020 in recognition of the relevance of the problem on police abuse and killings, the written directives provided by the states to police officers, and States' abuses of power.
