- Abstract
In the 1920s agricultural workers made up about 12% of all population living in rural areas. The figures of agricultural workers in Latgale, compared to other regions of Latvia, were smaller, they made up about 11% of all agricultural workers of Latvia. That was due to the fact that small farms of the size of 10 ha prevailed in Latgale and a family could cultivate such land plots on their own. Data on agricultural workers in Latgale provided in the paper includes their numbers, settlement in other districts, living and working conditions, working time, wages. The wages of agricultural workers in Latgale, compared to other districts, in the first half of the 1920s were lower therefore they were in demand. Migration of agricultural workers from Latgale to other regions and change in their status helped to some extent balance rural population of Latgale and land available.
