- Abstract
The article reports on the finding that oral contraceptive users who miss the first three active pills of a cycle are not likely to ovulate. Oral contraceptive users who miss the first three active pills of a cycle are not likely to ovulate, according to a study of 98 women using a variety of pill formulations. After the women extended the pill-free interval from seven to 10 days, hormone assays and ultrasound indicated that conditions for ovulation were right, but none of the women ovulated. The results were similar regardless of whether women were taking monophasic or triphasic preparations and even when the pill contained a very low dose of estrogen.
