- Title
New report on indicators of social and family functioning.
- Abstract
The article informs that a new report published by the Department of Family and Community Services entitled, "Indicators of Social and Family Functioning," focuses on developing measures of how well families and communities are doing, and addresses current gaps in knowledge of these characteristics at the population level. It is hoped that this will assist in addressing problems that emerge from the impact of changes in the social, economic and cultural environments in which families live. The project was undertaken by Associate Professor Stephen Zubrick of the Western Australian TVW Telethon Institute of Child Health Research, and Professor Graham Vimpani, Head of Paediatrics and Child Health at the University of Newcastle. Other researchers engaged directly on the project included Mr Sven Silburn, Senior Clincial Lecturer, and Ms Anwen Williams, Senior Research Officer at the institute for Child Health Research. The idea for the research arose from a number of Commonwealth reports during the 1990s calling for the enhancement of social and family functioning and the development of ways by which this could be measured.
