- Abstract
The article examines the political discourses on consensus and compromise in Switzerland and identifies the underlying political concepts. The analysis shows that the political discourses in Switzerland exhibit certain linguistic patterns that are not found to the same extent in German discourses. The study also takes into account Switzerland's multilingualism and compares the results with German data. The findings show that in the German Bundestag, there is more frequent negative talk about compromises compared to the Swiss National Council. The present study examines the usage of the terms "consensus" and "compromise" in the speeches and texts of the Swiss government. The analysis shows that Swiss consensus democracy is not currently at risk, despite tendencies such as polarization or mediatization.
