- Authors
Salameh, Mohammed Torki Bani
- Abstract
This article explores the complex relationship between Iran, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia, focusing on Kuwait's hedging strategy towards both countries. It explains that Iran has sought to expand its influence by supporting Shiite minorities in the Arabian Gulf, while Saudi Arabia aims to lead a unified Arab and Islamic alliance against Iran. Kuwait, however, has pursued a hedging policy to protect itself from conflicts and limit expansionist attempts by both countries. The article also discusses historical tensions, terrorist operations, and disputes over maritime borders between Iran and Kuwait. It emphasizes the fluctuating nature of the relationship, ranging from hostility to cooperation, and highlights Kuwait's role as a mediator in regional conflicts. Overall, Kuwait's foreign policy aims to maintain its existence and avoid provoking crises with Iran and Saudi Arabia.
