The article reflects on the use of big data in social research. It suggests creating a large randomly sampled Web panel for producing identifiable big data from social media and search engines. It presents case studies related to the use of big data in statistical systems. It mentions challenge associated with combining multiple sources of data and reducing probability of disclosure of sensitive information on individuals.
