- Abstract
Broccoli is a vegetable of the Brassicaceae family, grown mainly in the South and Southeast regions of Brazil. The crop, thus most crops of agronomic interest, is greatly affected by salinity, interfering with growth and causing changes in product quality. The objective of this work was to evaluate the influence of saline stress on the physiological quality of broccoli seeds and biomass production by seedlings. Four replicates of 50 seeds each were submitted to salt stress induced by increasing concentrations of NaCl (0.0, 0.3, 0.6 and 0.9 MPa). Seed quality was evaluated by germination and first germination counts, shoot and root length, and fresh and dry mass of the seedlings. Exposure to NaCl from the water potential of -0.3 MPa reduces germination and fresh biomass in broccoli seedlings.
