The Repetitive Use of ύψóω in the Fourth Gospel.
- Authors
Mardaga, Hellen
- Abstract
A literary criticism of the biblical Gospel of John is presented. It addresses the use of repetition of the Greek word ὑψόω in John. The oratorical techniques of John's contemporary the Roman teacher Quintilian, the use and meaning of ὑψόω in the Septuagint (LXX), and the effect of repetition on John's audience are addressed. This repetition is said to be tied to John's use of double entendre in relation to the crucifixion and the exaltation of Jesus.
