Musical Breathing Education for Guitarists.
- Authors
Carrillo, Victor Manuel Rubio
- Abstract
The purpose of this study was to test how a musical breathing intervention affected guitarists' performance outcomes, cognitive interference, wellbeing, and attitudes towards musical breathing. Participants were chosen from the classical guitar department at a major university in the southeast United States of America. A control and a treatment group were compared after being matched with a performance test. Results showed better scores in musical performance and mental wellbeing in the treatment group. Participants who underwent treatment workshops showed positive responses in their attitudes towards musical breathing education and showed no signs of cognitive interference due to musical breathing awareness while performing. The development of a musical breathing system can aid in the control of breathing techniques and could be an important factor in improving wellbeing.
